This blue confetti melt and pour soap is a simple loaf packed with grated blue soap shreds. It’s one of the easiest ways to use up leftover soap, and every slice looks a little different. I grated leftover blue soap on a cheese grater, then layered the shreds in a loaf mold with melted soap.

Materials & Tools
Soap
- About 4 bars of leftover blue soap, grated into shreds (mine was blue clear soap left from another project)
- About 4 cups melted soap base to fill the loaf. I used shea butter melt and pour, but clear melt and pour works too.
- A little clear melt and pour to drizzle over the top
Color & Scent
- The shreds carry the color. Use any mica from a Stardust mica set if you’re making shreds from scratch.
- Fragrance oil (I used Energy; try Barnhouse fragrance oils)
Tools
- 6-cup silicone loaf mold
- A cheese grater
- Funnel pour cups
- Soap cutter
- Spray bottle of 91% isopropyl alcohol
- Thermometer
Fragrance Amount
Use up to 5 ml of fragrance oil per 16 oz (1 lb) of soap base. You can always use less if you like a lighter scent, but don’t go over 5 ml per 16 oz.
How to Make Blue Confetti Melt and Pour Soap
1. Grate the Shreds
Grate your leftover soap on a cheese grater. I had about four bars’ worth of blue shreds.

2. Melt the Base
Melt the soap base and add your fragrance. Have a little extra ready, since you may need more than you expect.

3. Layer Soap and Shreds
Spray the mold with alcohol and pour just enough soap to cover the bottom. Add a layer of shreds, spray, and pour more soap. Keep going, layering shreds and soap. At about 129°F, the soap won’t melt the shreds.

4. Top with Shreds
Lightly sprinkle shreds over the top. To keep loose shreds from falling off when you cut, drizzle a thin layer of clear melt and pour over them. Push everything down, tap out air bubbles and let the loaf set.

5. Unmold and Cut
Unmold the loaf and cut your bars. Every slice shows a different confetti pattern. If the soap is soft, a little time in the fridge makes cutting easier.

Tips & What I Learned
- Use up leftovers. Any leftover soap makes great confetti.
- Pour around 130°F. Hotter soap can melt the shreds.
- Seal the top. A thin drizzle of clear soap holds the top shreds for cutting.
- Keep extra shreds. They can go into another mold or be remelted.
Troubleshooting
Shreds fell off the top when cutting.
Drizzle a thin layer of clear soap over them first.
The shreds melted.
The soap was too hot. Let it cool to about 130°F.
There are gaps between shreds.
Spray with alcohol and pour slowly between layers.
FAQ
How much fragrance oil should I use?
Up to 5 ml per 16 oz of soap base. You can always use less, but don’t use more than 5 ml per 16 oz.
Can I use clear base instead of shea butter?
Yes. Clear base shows the shreds through the soap, and shea butter gives an opaque, creamy look.
How do I make shreds without leftovers?
Pour a few bars of colored soap, let them harden, then grate them.
