This night sky star melt and pour soap was inspired by my kids’ favorite bedtime story about the moon. It has a black sky, a swirl of bright blue, a yellow “moon” pour, and a top covered in little glittery star embeds cut out with tiny cookie cutters. It’s an easy, fun soap for kids and party favors.

Color & Scent
- Activated charcoal for black
- A bright blue mica and a yellow mica from a Stardust mica set
- Bio glitter
- A fresh fragrance oil (I used one called Energy)
Tools
- Loaf soap mold
- Small star cutters

Use up to 5 ml of fragrance oil per 16 oz (1 lb) of soap base. You can always use less if you like a lighter scent, but don’t go over 5 ml per 16 oz.
How to Make Night Sky Star Soap
1. Melt and Color
Melt the bases and add fragrance. Mix each color with a couple of drops of alcohol in a small glass, then stir in: charcoal for black, bright blue, and yellow. Add a little glitter.

2. Pour the Black Sky
At about 135°F, pour the black into the loaf mold and spray with alcohol.

3. Pour the Blue
Pour the blue using a cup with a spout so you can control it. It swirls into the black beautifully.

4. Pour the Yellow Moon
Once there’s a skin, cut a small slit with a knife so the next pour flows in. Pour the yellow down one side, down the other, then in a squiggle.

5. Make Star Embeds
Color a little clear base yellow, add glitter, and pour a very thin layer into a flat silicone tray. Once it’s set, pop it out and cut little stars with tiny cookie cutters. Skip the fragrance, since the loaf is already scented.

6. Add the Stars
Melt a little clear soap, let it cool, spray the top of the loaf with alcohol, pour a very thin layer, and press the stars on top.

7. Unmold and Cut
Let it set completely, then unmold and cut.

Tips & What I Learned
- Use cups with spouts. They give you control when layering colors.
- Cut a slit through the skin. It helps the next color flow in.
- Pour stars thin. Thin sheets are easy to cut with cookie cutters.
- Clear stars pop. Clear base makes the embeds sparkle on top.
- Mix mica in a small glass. A few drops of alcohol is all you need.
Troubleshooting
The colors blended too much. Let each layer cool and skin over before pouring the next.
The stars fell off. Spray with alcohol and use a thin layer of soap as glue.
The star sheet tore. Let it set fully before cutting.
FAQ
Can kids help make this?
Yes. Cutting out the stars is a great job for kids, with an adult handling the hot soap.
Can I use other shapes?
Yes. Moons, hearts or any small cutter works.
