Blue and Gold Melt and Pour Soap with Piped Soap Frosting

By Anna

This blue and gold melt and pour soap pairs Blue Ice with a shimmery King Midas Gold, poured thick so the colors stay separate, then topped with piped soap frosting in matching colors. For the frosting I use Melt Whip and Pipe (MWP), a pipeable soap from Rose of Sharon Soapery.

Materials & Tools

Soap Base

  • About 5–6 cups of clear melt and pour soap base, split into two cups
  • About 4 oz of Melt Whip and Pipe (MWP) for the frosting. Start with only 4–5 oz for a loaf.

Color & Scent

Tools

Fragrance Amount

Use up to 5 ml of fragrance oil per 16 oz (1 lb) of soap base. You can always use less if you like a lighter scent, but don’t go over 5 ml per 16 oz.

How to Make Blue and Gold Soap

1. Melt and Lighten the Base

Melt the clear base and split it into two cups. Stir in a little titanium dioxide so the colors turn pastel. The MWP frosting is naturally light, so this helps everything match.

2. Mix the Colors

Mix King Midas Gold and Blue Ice with alcohol. Put the blue in the larger cup and the gold in the smaller one. Add fragrance.

3. Pour Thick

Let both cups cool until they’re thick and skinned. I poured the blue at about 121°F, then the gold on top. Thick soap keeps the colors from blending. Spray with alcohol and let it set.

4. Prepare the Frosting

Heat about 4 oz of MWP in a plastic container to 190–200°F. Let it cool a bit, then whip it. Split it, tint half blue and half gold, and spoon both into the same piping bag.

5. Pipe the Top

Spray the soap with alcohol. Mark 1-inch cutting lines on the mold so you can center the piping on each bar. Pipe swirls down the loaf and add a pinch of bio glitter. MWP can be reheated if you make a mistake.

6. Unmold and Cut

Unmold the loaf and cut between the piped swirls. The frosting stays soft and spongy at first. You can wrap the bars in 24–48 hours.

Tips & What I Learned

  • Match the frosting color. A little titanium dioxide makes clear base pastel like MWP.
  • Pour thick. Thick soap gives clean color separation.
  • Use only 4–5 oz of MWP for a loaf. A little goes a long way.
  • Mark your cuts. Center each piped swirl on a bar.
  • Save leftovers. Extra soap makes a nice cloud or cupcake soap.

Troubleshooting

The colors blended. The soap was too warm. Let it thicken more before pouring.

The frosting is too runny. Let it cool longer before whipping and piping.

I made a piping mistake. MWP can be scraped off, reheated and piped again.
