This peppermint whipped sugar scrub is a simple 1:1 recipe: foaming bath butter and granulated sugar, whipped together with peppermint and a swirl of pink. It’s creamy, it lathers, and it exfoliates. You can scoop it into jars or pipe it for a pretty gift. I’ll also share what went wrong with my piping bag, so yours goes smoothly.

Recipe
- 10 oz foaming bath butter base
- 10 oz granulated sugar
- Peppermint fragrance oil
- Red Strawberry mica from a Stardust mica for the pink half
- Optional: a sprinkle of bio glitter
Makes about 20 oz, enough for two 8 oz jars plus a little extra.
Fragrance Amount
Use up to 5 ml of fragrance oil per 16 oz of product. For this 20 oz batch, that’s no more than about 6 ml. You can always use less, but don’t go over that.
Tools
- Stand mixer or a hand mixer
- A rigid spatula (a flexible one is too soft for this thick scrub)
- Large piping bag and 1M tip
- 8 oz jars or 4 oz containers
- Kitchen scale
How to Make Whipped Sugar Scrub
1. Weigh the Ingredients
Weigh out equal amounts of foaming bath butter and sugar. This base doesn’t grow much when whipped, so what you mix is about what you’ll get. Some other brands double in size.

2. Whip the Base
Whip the foaming bath butter in a mixer for 8–10 minutes until it’s light and creamy.

3. Add Fragrance and Sugar
Add about half the fragrance and whip again. Then slowly add the sugar while the mixer runs, and add the rest of the fragrance.

4. Make a Pink Half
Split the scrub in half. Fold Red Strawberry mica into one half with a rigid spatula and leave the other half white.

5. Fill the Piping Bag
Fit a large piping bag with a 1M tip. Cut the bag carefully so the tip sits snugly. Add the pink and white side by side. Don’t overfill it.

6. Pipe into Jars
Set the jar on a scale and pipe in swirls. My first bag burst because I overfilled it, and this scrub is very thick. A heavy-duty bag or simply scooping works too.

7. Finish and Test
Smooth the tops and put the lids on. A little scrub on wet hands lathers right up and exfoliates.

Tips & What I Learned
- Use a heavy-duty piping bag. Thick sugar scrub can burst a regular bag.
- Don’t overfill the bag. Less pressure means fewer blowouts.
- Use a rigid spatula. Flexible ones bend in thick scrub.
- Scoop if you’re short on time. It looks great either way.
- Set jars on a scale. It’s easy to fill each one evenly.
Troubleshooting
The piping bag burst. It was overfilled. Use less scrub or a heavy-duty bag.
The color didn’t mix in. Small batches can stick to the bowl sides. Fold by hand.
The scrub is too stiff to pipe. Whip the base longer before adding sugar.
FAQ
What’s the ratio for whipped sugar scrub?
This recipe is 1:1 by weight, foaming bath butter to sugar.
