Peppermint Snowdrift Melt and Pour Soap: Layered Christmas Soap with Soap Frosting

By Anna

Peppermint Snowdrift melt and pour soap is packed with chunks of red and white layered “candy cane” embeds, set in a pale pink base and topped with fluffy whipped soap frosting and sparkles. It smells like peppermint candy and makes a beautiful holiday gift.

Fragrance Amount

Use up to 5 ml of fragrance oil per 16 oz (1 lb) of soap base. Peppermint is strong, so I used less: about 2 ml in the 14 oz red, and 1–1½ ml in each shea butter batch. You can always use less.

How to Make Peppermint Snowdrift Soap

1. Pour the First Red Layer

Melt the clear base (about 142°F), stir in Red Strawberry mixed with alcohol, and add a little peppermint. Fill each cavity about one-third full. Spray with alcohol.

2. Pour the White Layer

Once the red has a good skin, score it with a skewer and spray with alcohol (91% or higher helps layers stick). Melt the shea butter, add a little fragrance, and at about 141°F pour another third, just past where you can see the red.

3. Pour the Top Red Layer

Reheat the leftover red to about 143°F. Score and spray the white, then fill the cavities to the top.

4. Cut the Embeds

Unmold the layered bars. They look like candy canes. Cut them into random chunks.

5. Make the Base

Fill the square mold with the chunks. Melt about 10 oz of shea butter with a tiny pinch of red mica for a pale pink and a little fragrance. At about 134°F, spray the chunks with alcohol and pour the base over them.

6. Whip the Frosting

Let the top harden (a few minutes in the fridge helps), then score it and spray with alcohol. Melt about 3 oz more shea butter and whip it with a hand mixer until it’s thick. Fold in some zested red soap for pink freckles if you like.

7. Frost the Top

Spoon the warm frosting on and push it into all the corners, using the lip of the mold. Wearing clean gloves, sprinkle bio glitter on while it’s still wet.

8. Unmold and Cut

Unmold carefully so you don’t knock off the frosting, then cut. The frosting stays soft and spongy, and that’s normal.

Tips & What I Learned

  • Score and spray between layers. It keeps the layers from separating.
  • Use a clear peppermint fragrance. Yellow fragrances can tint white soap.
  • Leave a lip in the mold. It gives the frosting room.
  • Whipped soap thickens fast. Work quickly once it’s ready.
  • Frosting stays spongy. It won’t get as hard as the bar.

Troubleshooting

The layers separated. Score the set layer and spray with 91%+ alcohol before pouring the next one.

The frosting is stringy. It was whipped too long or too cool. Spread it while it’s still warm.

The frosting fell off when unmolding. Score the top before frosting and unmold gently.

FAQ

Can I make the embeds ahead of time?

Yes. Layered embeds keep well. Store them wrapped until you’re ready.

Can I use leftover embeds?

Yes. Extras make great mini soaps or confetti for another batch.
